Hi Everyone! Anna, here, just falling apart at the beginning of the school year. Can any parents relate? How is it possible that just over four weeks ago I was still packing sunscreen and bathing suits into my kids’ backpacks and yelling “Stop bothering your sister!” at the top of my lungs in the car while the radio’s classic station played something called “90s oldies but goodies”. Who am I right now!?! Where did my cool teenage angst go? Where did my Smashing Pumpkins t-shirt go? No one really knows. September really came in swinging, and I think it accidentally socked me in the eye a few times. So, here we are at the end of the month, leaning into the pumpkin spiced latte weather, and I need some kind of a camp feeling to keep me company during my absolute face-plant into autumn.
For weeks, the JCC Brooklyn camp team has been having conversations about what to do for the campers who want to see each other during the year and the parents who want to be a part of the summer magic. It was a total no-brainer when everyone decided we would have a Harvest Festival and make the color orange a whole commitment. I mean, instead of driving all the way to Connecticut just to eat an apple cider donut, pick pumpkins, and sit in traffic all the way back to New York, JCC Brooklyn is bringing us “Summer in Autumn” – which sounds like the name of a Yankee candle scent that was rejected for being too confusing, but personally, I cannot WAIT to bring my own kids to this thing. It’s going to be kind of like an indoor fall carnival and it makes me think about The Gilmore Gilrs, Who’s Got Mail, AND that one stuffed animal at Starbucks that looks like a chipmunk wearing a green apron. Anywayyyyy, I am dying to meet so many of you in-person. I connected with a lot of you over the summer and it would be such a blast to come together over a corn maze obstacle course and a mouth full of cotton candy. Fall is my favorite season, but it definitely needs some summer spirit. I can’t wait to see you all there! Until next time, hopefully by my next blog I will have mastered the art of bobbing for apples without getting mascara all over my face. Happy Fall, y’all, and Shana Tova!
